About Gilbert Remulla

Courage. Integrity. Initiative. Transparency.

These are some of the fine traits of Gilbert Remulla. From a province known for its roots in Filipino heroism, undoubtedly, caring for others and defending one's principles are traits innate in Gilbert's blood as exemplified by his ancestors.

He is the youngest child of former Cavite Governor Juanito Remulla and Ditas Catibayan. Although he belonged to a prominent family, he did not mind working in a television network, starting at the bottom.

But because of his determination, skill, and mastery in communication and media, he was promoted to becoming a reporter and host of various news and current affairs shows. He was so devoted to his work that he bravely covered, criticized, and scrutinized every bit and piece of the issue at hand, just so that the news may be faithfully and truthfully delivered to the people. In the midst of his brewing success, he never changed, treating all his co-workers the same whether higher or lower in rank.

However, there came a time when he had to leave broadcasting in order to pursue higher studies, which allowed him to eventually earn a master's degree in International Affairs in New York. While abroad, he was also able to work in CNN and in the United Nations.

It was also during his stay abroad when he met the love of his life, Georgia Isabel Roa, who happens to be the niece of actresses 1969 Miss Universe Gloria Diaz and Rio Diaz- Cojuangco, and the cousin of Georgina Wilson and Isabelle Diaz-Daza. The happy couple has been blessed with three beautiful daughters: Roxanne Margarita (8), Rocio Isabel (5), and Reanna (2).

When asked to lead in the road for change in the country, Gilbert did not hesitate to return to his homeland. He ran for Congress to represent the largest district in the province of Cavite, and despite his young age, Gilbert Remulla won, even serving for two terms as a Member of Congress.

He outshined his older and more experienced colleagues in the House by producing significant legislations which targeted social ills in our country: jueteng and illegal drugs, through laws increasing the penalty for jueteng and with the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, respectively. He also proposed measures that would, require mobile service providers to give a detailed billing for pre-paid subscribers, to provide socialized and low-cost housing loans, and one of his priorities, the Magna Carta for Journalists to provide greater protection to members of the media. On his second term as Congressman, he fearlessly led the Lower House investigation in one of the most controversial bombs that hit the Arroyo administration, the Hello Garci scandal. Gilbert was even quoted as saying, "This whole situation smells of cover up and conspiracy" in one of his privilege speeches.

Gilbert Remulla has accomplished a lot as a public servant in trying to uplift the lives of his countrymen:

     · In terms of education, he gave out 256 scholarship grants to truly deserving Filipino students, had initiated efforts to put up classrooms, and has organized the construction of 150 school buildings.

     · In terms of labor and employment, he has set-up several job fairs for his constituents and was able to give assistance to aspiring small and medium scale entrepreneurs so as to provide them with sufficient capital. He also had measures to allow his constituents to have business opportunities and salary increases not only for ordinary labourers, but also financial grants to farmers.

     · In building a better society, he allocated almost 90 million pesos for the construction and improvement of roads and bridges. He also feels strongly for the sick and disabled that is why he opened his doors freely to give them aid and assistance, medically and financially.

     · During his terms of service, his record remained clean and unblemished; he never misallocated or misappropriated public funds, neither was he accused of doing so. Never did he allow the agenda of others to run over his hardly fought principles; he stood by them and defended them-all for the sake of loyalty and allegiance to the people.

Now, he intends to promote his advocacies centered on protecting the health and fitness of every Filipino family, improve the state of education, and to eradicate all forms of persecution directed against journalists and members of the media. The sanctity and freedom of the media and of information must always be maintained.

As a young father, Gilbert knows that he needs to live up and be an advocate of that which is right so as to lead a road to change and to bring back this country to the people.
